Waltzes (2015)

König’s great gift lies in capturing moods musically and expressing them through sound … The works are profound, sensitive, and deeply emotional. (klassik.com)

When he saw and heard Japanese concert pianist Mayuko Miyata—who now also lives in the German capital—perform at one of her concerts, Kerim König was reminded of a waltz he had once composed but then forgotten in a drawer. Miyata’s expressive and technically brilliant playing rekindled his passion for Chopin, a passion she shares and had deepened through her studies with the award-winning Polish concert pianist Lidia Grychtołówna.

This led to the project Waltzes: contemporary classical piano music composed by Kerim König and performed by Mayuko Miyata. Together, they recorded an album at the famous Teldex Studio in Berlin with the help of Grammy-nominated recording engineer Wolfgang Schiefermair. It is an album full of sonic landscapes that inspire the listener not so much to dance, but rather to reflect, contemplate, and relax.

The album was released on August 28th, 2015 via Hey!blau Records.
